Woodlands Wisdom | Owl Mug – Studio Originals

One owl at the top. One owl at the bottom - both of them judging you for how long you've been lazing in bed with your morning cuppa.

This wheel-thrown stoneware mug features two tiny hand-sculpted owls - one perched at the top of the handle, one settled at the base - bookending the handle like a pair of very patient, very opinionated sentinels. Whether they're keeping watch, sharing secrets, or simply waiting for you to make better decisions, we couldn't say.

The body of the mug has been hand-carved to resemble tree bark - deeply textured, tactile, and grounding to hold. Turn it over and you'll find circular rings on the underside, like the cross-section of an ancient woodland tree. The exterior is left unglazed, so the raw grey Scandi stoneware clay feels exactly as it looks - earthy, honest, and quietly magnificent.

Inside and around the rim, a drippy blue, brown, and green glaze pools and flows like moonlight through a forest canopy. The contrast between the rich glazed interior and the raw carved exterior makes this mug feel like it belongs in an ancient woodland.

Woodlands Wisdom is part of the Studio Originals collection. These are one-of-a-kind pieces made entirely by hand in my East Sussex garden studio, so no two pieces are ever the same.
