Woodland Treasure | Squirrel Mug – Studio Originals

Every mug tells a story. This one belongs to a squirrel.

Perched on the handle of this wheel-thrown stoneware mug is a tiny hand-sculpted squirrel, peering downwards - where, if you look closely, you'll find a little acorn "treasure" waiting for him.

The body of the mug has been hand-carved to resemble tree bark and if you turn it over, you'll find circular rings on the underside, like the cross-section of a felled log. The exterior is left unglazed, so the raw texture of the grey Scandi stoneware clay does the talking - earthy, tactile, and quietly beautiful.

Inside and around the rim, a drippy blue, brown, and green glaze pools and flows like a forest canopy catching the rain. The contrast between the beautifully glazed interior and the raw, carved exterior is what makes this mug feel truly special.

Woodlands Treasure is part of the Studio Originals collection. These are one-of-a-kind pieces made entirely by hand in my East Sussex garden studio, so no two pieces are ever the same.
