Woodlands Lucky Escape | Fox Mug – Studio Originals

At the base of the handle, a tiny hand-sculpted fox is mid-chase - nose down, intent, absolutely certain this is the moment. And there, just ahead of him, a little mouse is disappearing into the undergrowth. One more second and it's gone. The fox will have to find a different breakfast.

This wheel-thrown stoneware mug captures a split second of woodland drama, frozen in clay. The kind of scene that plays out in hedgerows and forest floors every morning while you're still waiting for the kettle to boil.

The body of the mug has been hand-carved to resemble tree bark - deeply textured, tactile, and satisfying to wrap your hands around. Turn it over and you'll find circular rings on the underside, like the cross-section of a felled woodland tree. The exterior is left unglazed, so the raw grey Scandi stoneware clay feels exactly as it looks - earthy and alive.

Inside and around the rim, a drippy blue, brown, and green glaze pools and flows like a forest canopy catching the rain. The contrast between the rich glazed interior and the raw carved exterior makes this mug feel genuinely wild.

Woodlands Lucy Escape is part of the Studio Originals collection. These are one-of-a-kind pieces made entirely by hand in my East Sussex garden studio, so no two pieces are ever the same.
