Woodlands Beauty | Toadstool Mug – Studio Originals

They appeared overnight, as toadstools do.

A cluster of tiny red toadstools has taken up residence at the base of the handle - hand-sculpted, perfectly formed, and entirely unbothered by the fact that they're living on a mug. They look like they've always been there. They probably have.

This wheel-thrown stoneware mug is a love letter to the forest floor - to the quiet magic of stumbling across a perfect ring of toadstools in the undergrowth and feeling, just for a moment, like the world is a little more enchanted than you thought. The vivid red caps nestled against the raw bark-like exterior make for a striking contrast.

The body of the mug has been hand-carved to resemble tree bark - deeply textured, tactile, and grounding to hold. Turn it over and you'll find circular rings on the underside, like the cross-section of an old woodland tree. The exterior is left unglazed, so the raw grey Scandi stoneware clay does exactly what it should - feel like bark.

Inside and around the rim, a drippy blue, brown, and green glaze pools and flows like light filtering through a forest canopy. The contrast between the rich glazed interior and the raw carved exterior makes this mug feel like it was pulled straight from the woods.

Woodlands Beauty is part of the Studio Originals collection. These are one-of-a-kind pieces made entirely by hand in my East Sussex garden studio, so no two pieces are ever the same.
