As darkness falls along the Doolin coast, lights flicker in cottage windows - small, warm, and full of welcome. This enchanting handmade ceramic candle jar captures that same quality: holes pierced into the upper body allow the light of a tealight candle to glow through, casting dappled, dancing light across your shelf or windowsill.

Wheel-thrown in my East Sussex garden studio and finished entirely by hand, this rounded jar features a gently ruffled flared top and four tiny hand-sculpted thatched cottages nestled around the sides - each one painted in bright, cheerful colours. The white slip and transparent glaze give the piece a soft, luminous quality that's especially beautiful by candlelight.

With no drainage hole, The Lantern also works beautifully as a bud vase for a single stem or small spray of wildflowers - a versatile piece with two very different personalities depending on the time of day.
