Blue Bubble | Medium Bowl - Scandi Stoneware
Light, lace, and the quiet beauty of something made by hand. This striking handmade bowl is wheel-thrown in my East Sussex garden studio from grey stoneware clay, then pierced entirely by hand - circular holes of varying sizes punched around the perimeter, with the rim shaped to echo the flow of the bubbles. The result is something that looks almost impossibly delicate for a material as honest as stoneware.
Inside, the bowl is glazed in a rich lagoon blue that pools beautifully in the curves of the clay. The unglazed exterior has the tactile, pebble-like quality of all the Scandi Stoneware pieces - rough and satisfying to hold, with the blue glaze visible through each hole like sunlight through a coral reef.
The base is left unpierced, making this fully functional as a fruit bowl, salad bowl, key bowl, or simply a beautiful object to have on your shelf.
Please note: a small amount of glaze has found its way to the outside of the bowl around some of the holes - this doesn't detract from the appearance and is reflected in the price.
